Owning your Growth from a Self-identified Bench Mark

Have you ever felt competition from your colleague? Have you ever felt your own growth areas already overcome by your colleague? Do you feel overshadowed by your colleague? Is your colleague preferred over you by others?

These emotions just call for an emergency fix or takes you into depression. The question arises, does one need to fix it immediately or understand their own print and core strengths?

First of all lets accept, we all have multiple growth areas that our consciousness keeps telling us silently. We just lack giving it a priority. Your colleague just helps you highlight and show a result oriented example: "What would it be if I closed those gaps?" Consider it as an opportunity to sit with yourself over a cup of tea/coffee and a planner. Let’s start with a Case Study for a better understanding.

Case Study:

Your Colleague is consciously  / unconsciously  appreciated for below qualities:
1) Taking ownership and having a sense of belonging
2) Note taking and sending immediate MOM. Facilitating / Setting timelines for the action points.
4) Being ready to take on the task at the right time irrespective of the rightful owner
5) Balancing personal and work time.
6) Taking the task to completion than leaving midway
7) Being respectful while reaffirming others responsibility. (Here serious Anger, conflict and Ego management is being exhibited)
8) Most importantly avoiding unrequired discussing/commenting on people not related to task in hand.
9) Keeping your personal life well-guarded to avoid unnecessary elements.
10) Asking the right questions keeping the end picture in mind. Problem solving.

Well the above is from a real life example. It would be good to score yourself from 1-5 to understand where you stand with your list. Once Identified, prioritize which qualities are more important than others. Wherever you have a score 3 or less, diagnose why is it holding you. You could be held because of some more deeper issues.

As an example from the Case Study:
Note taking and sending immediate MOM. Facilitating setting timelines for the action points.

Why such an obvious thing you would not do. The reasons could be several:
1) You see someone doing it already, and choose not to.
2) You are lazy to take ownership.
3) You just care about your task in hand.
4) You want someone to define your job.
5) You are a natural daydreamer and find meetings as a form of escape to relax.
6) You want to test your memory to remember it all.

The above in itself spells out why you would appreciate your colleague for it.
Why is it important for your self-growth to overcome the above, other than the fact the team would appreciate you more? Let’s try and list personal advantages of doing it:
1) Any kind of healthy control/supervision allows you to reduce risk and surprise/shock element in your job/life/task in hand. This leads to reduced stress levels.
2) Setting timelines, helps you achieve realistic goals as a team and identify risks early. This not only increases team credibility but yours too.
3) Reduction in stagnation in your own job, as you are constantly assessing what is being done. It is a mental opportunity to assess why the task is being taken and a wider vision of the end goal.
4) When you define your own job, you are promoting your inner natural abilities where you have a higher probability of shining. Letting others to control in defining your job/responsibilities is just leading to your slow growth and stagnation. The net result is a lower happy Index. In the end we all are trying to maintain the happy equilibrium.
5) Being a daydreamer could be an: indication of being in the wrong place, setting wrong priorities in life, not choosing the right career, not defining your job. It is a topic in itself, that needs to be discussed independently.

These are just ideas to help you navigate through your own insecurities, growth areas. A thorough interrogation into the reasons will help you with clarity and eliminate unwanted behaviour that are inhibiting your growth.

Art Critic : "THE FRAGMENTED FEW" group show at IHC

14th Feb when everyone is busy with their personnel lives.. there are few who have been romancing with what is closest to their hearts. The fragmented few, who are just different layers within ourselves exhibited their line of work at The Indian Habitat Center. We had the famous Five Post Independence to change the face of Indian art(MF Hussain, Suza etc). Here we have the three trio: Bhanu, Aakshat and Veerat.  Each Individuals work is on a different axis in a 3D world. But somewhere they all merge at different levels. The artists express the layers of complexity that a human mind faces in dealing with themselves, the world and their dreams and ideas.

Aakshat who after completing his engineering , left for a different path to reconnect with himself. His answers searched Art as a medium in his self journey. There are friends and fellows who encourage and direct him to refine his art modeling techniques. But aakshat's soul lies in exploring the basic human form "Our Soul". His expression is engraved in the union of colors. each color stands alone , but spreads across to bring harmony to thought and mind. His canvases play with separation and togetherness of same thoughts expressed through twin canvases in his line of work in Fragmented few. Van Gogh expressed action through his strokes. Aakshat expresses the fluidity of the soul through his strokes which have varied translucency. He has a a deep understanding of the aura that surrounds each individual. he expresses them with one color on each canvas, yet gets them together to demonstrate the different moods that make them one with the soul. His paintings are the reflections that go in our subconscious mind once we have passed away from any encountered experience. They express "We still exist in form by shaping your mind and actions". They are not the after affects of a hangover where we loose our voice. But that shape the state of our mind. You would say i'd rather have a tequila shot  or bhang on a holi day.  His works are these stream of thoughts and beings that we experience everyday.

Veerat's work are vital to a child's play. what would be an art class in school for a child, if he/she was asked to make the world around him/her. Veerat's work refuses to travel in the existing city scape where he physically belongs. He treads on the path where he sits and dreams with his imagination.  His world explores What the world would be if the creation of God and the subordinate Human mind were in unison. The Swiss knife is his human mind that is a tool ready to be used in any situation. He coins it as the Oracle, who knows all.  Veerat initiated his journey with a diploma at Maya academy after his schooling. He gave away the digital medium to explore the traditional mediums. Where we explore our capabilities in our daily lives, Veerat gives it to us. Instead of coloring our hair violet he makes them alive with tentacles.  He sees further into the future where we disbelief that it may exist. Under the branching tree of possibilities and probabilities he takes human form to an evolution where ocean creatures, humans and machinery converge to evolve in a form more suited to an environment which can surface 1000 years from now. And if such a painting is discovered , they might presume that Human beings did exist in this form too , or were aware that human beings would evolve to such a state. These are just based on If. An if condition that can change the complete landscape   of the way we perceive our surroundings.

Bhanu has been the toughest to understand. But with his little help I have been able to see the third side of the coin. The lack of understanding is what his images say aloud. We are all encased in a capsule. We layer and abstract ourselves  with our appearances. We refuse to see around us . We are fragmented in various ways. we are fragmented as individuals, as a society. We are fragmented by the underlying thumb that drives us daily. We are different in ways which we camouflage unknowingly to be a part of this society. Bhanu unveils us from these hidings. He dares us to see ourselves as we are. His paintings can be interpreted on different levels. At one level we see how we have grownup in physique but not in our minds. The doll baby faces are representative of the state of being of human minds that we present to display an exterior face of innocence. Pink a colour which all girls associate with rosy cheeks and pretty dresses, Bhanu expresses it to be the colour of flesh as well. Which if exposed we screech , but thats what lies beneath our skin. There is a certain tension in his paintings which are trying to come in harmony with the inner and outer spaces. The exteriors of the canvases are the submissive human mind that gives in to what is expected from an individual, the inner conflict lives within to express and grow out in the canvases. Each painting is like a plant encased in a box which is devoid of light and is unable to grow due to the limitations that surround him/her in the form of societal pressures, a body of conduct etc. A bat expresses itself as a bat. A hyena parts away your meal. in the end they are all part of this life-cycle. Acceptance of these unwanted creatures is what will bring everyone in unison and harmony. Discarding them away would just break the life-cycle on which we all exist. Bhanu wants us to accept them. He wants us to share our space. In jack Johnson's song he sings " Where did the good people go?".

In totality this exhibition fulfilled the promise of experiencing ourselves of who we are.

Disconnecting Passion and Realism

My friend made me sit down and said 'I want you to debate with me on passion vs realism'. I have been clueless since childhood about debates. They get my hair standing. But with each year adding up its become amusing to my mind. If I can really separate a disjoint set which doesnt seem so, or if it seems so getting them connected back again.

1st question why would someone ask me in the first place 'Be realistic!!' (I am starting my theory with the assumption that passion cannot go hand in hand with realism)? 1st thing that pops up is Realism is somewhere driven by fear, a sense of acceptance what we experience with our senses and fearing whats beyond this. Realism is a world known. Realism is the consequences of a certain set of actions known. Attaching probabilities of success with each path. One would choose the path with the consequences most favourable /desirable for future existence.
Coming to passion. Passion is the ever present joy in the complete experience in the moment of achieving a certain goal. The consequences if not achieved doesn't matter. There is a certain sense of loss. But the loss cannot be valued against the joy in struggling for it. The passion can be an objective for something which is known and an inner struggle to go against one's odds. It can be very well for something not known and done by any human being (animals too). The objectives realism is not important in passion. Its a driving force which naturally forces you to calculate , evaluate, take risks.
A vital difference in realism and passion as i can see is
1) The degree of risk.
2) The clear presence of the objective after a certain number of steps.
3) Evaluation of the end package/deal.

Now the question is can realism and passion go hand in hand?
I want to be a ballad dancer. As a realistic person I might go about calculating my constraints as in my age, health factors, family priorities, finances etc. Now all odds are against me, where my probability of success is low.  As a person who is passionate enough towards this form of dance, would i still pursue it or abandon it for nothing or another form of dance which is achievable? A realistic person would :
1) Abandon the dream
2) Take another form of dance
3) Become a trainer in this form of dance.

A passionate person would do the following:
1) Still pursue it against all odds
2) Take another form of dance
3) Become a trainer in this form of dance.

As we can see a realistic person can still be passionate and a passionate person can still be realistic. Its only the one who fears and is insecure would take option 1 in realism 'Abandon the dream'. And an obsessed passionate person would go for option 1 "Still pursue it against all odds".

Passion and realism can surely go hand in hand. They are definitely not a disjoint set. A level headed person will always be able to get best of whats in his/her heart. It would only be disjoint in the case of extremism: over pessimistic vs over optimistic. :)

Is WYSIWYG really True.

I really want to say about this..But my lids flapometer has drastically dipped down..and i would be just dying down.
This ones for my friend who recently visited a profile and exclaimed that the person is a Rebel as it seems from her profile. I have the advantage of knowing her. And would like to argue /comment/ discuss on such assumptions or perceptions. And thus the question Is What You See Is What You Get really true??

My first Blah!!

Such is the love for words that I aint sleepin. Though while singin the song by Santanna 'Smooth' I sung the lyrics Gimme your heart as Give me a heartache ..and so was the blog created. But as err is to human, Perfection is an illusionary change. And we landed at Then Blah said to Blah!! .

For music lovers

Smooth

(Chorus:)

And just like the ocean under the moon
Well that’s the same emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin that can be so smooth
Gimme your heart, make it real
Or else forget about it

Checkin Mike

It would only be fair..to insert a lot of dots in my blog..as I am accustomed to, while I am writing. My brain just swooshes left right like a pendulum with thoughts. That has been the real urge to have a blog of my own. Emailing thoughts, SMSing or just creating Drafts of my thoughts has become pas·sé for my nerves.

Keeping it short. I welcome you to my binary log of my heart aches..with dots..and keeping very much human that I love being. Rather I would have been the same even if I was born as a dog...err bitch (pure gender here and no fouls).
